Written by a former student from my days teaching at Asheville School, this will likely be the most memorable piece I read this holiday. We teach them and soon enough they teach us.”I’ve learned that love is bearing witness.” Christmas with my homeless aunt. – Slate Magazine.

Ross, Clearly, you and your colleagues at the Asheville School taught the young woman well. It’s a very moving piece.George Lamplugh

It is a pleasure to have a chance to work with kids with talent and the inclination to make something out of it. I hope you have had a very Merry Christmas, George. Happy New Year.

Ross, love is bearing witness. I read quite a few of the comments on Slate. They make me profoundly sad. Your former student understands love, the kind of love Christ showed, the kind that loves anyway, even when those loved won’t accept the grace that is offered. Thanks for sharing this. It makes me profoundly happy to know that you are the kind of dad who will model this kind of love for Eleanor. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for this, Jack. I think I’ll steer clear of the comments section on Slate. The combination of this piece and Christmas have definitely heightened my awareness of my love for my family and my specific love for my daughter.
